Animals for Insemination Report

Making sure that heifers and cows are inseminated in a timely manner is crucial for achieving optimal impregnation rates that, in turn, improve the rates of reproduction and milk production. Insemination decisions are made using data available in the Animals for Insemination report.

The Animals for Insemination report lists all cows and heifers that are considered eligible for insemination, and enables you to time inseminations according to each animal's optimal fertility window. Use the data on heat signs, fertility window, and conception to determine the optimal insemination time.

Description

Cow

Displays the cow ID.

Note: Green cow number and ! indicates that the cows previous cycle was between 18-24 days ago. This shows a normal heat cycle and that the cow is likely to be in heat now (not a false positive).

Note: Cow number and a + indicates the animal's heat end time was reached during the previous calendar day.

Status

Displays the animal's current status.

Grp

Displays the group to which the animal belongs.

Gyn (Gynecological) Status

Displays as one of the following: Heat; Insemination; (PD-) Insemination; Pregnant; Abortion; Fresh; Birth.

Number

Lact.

Displays the cow's lactation number.

Bred/Insemination

Displays the number of inseminations for current lactation.

Age

Displays the animal age in months.

DIM

Days in Milk.

Daily Avg. Yield Total group yield divided by the number of animals in the group = average yield per animal in the group for sessions in the last full day.

Days after

Heat

Displays the number of days that passed since the animal's last heat.

Insemination

Displays the number of days that passed since the animal's last insemination.

Heat signs

Started

Displays the point in time when the first sign of heat is detected. Heat Signs Start when her Heat Indicator breaches the Heat Indication threshold set in the parameters.

Ended

Displays the point in time when the last sign of heat is detected. Heat signs end when her Heat Indicator drops below the threshold.

Fertility Window

Fertility Window

Displays the 8-hour interval during which the animal is most likely to conceive if inseminated. This window starts 8 hours after the first signs of heat are detected and ends 16 hours after the first signs of heat are detected.

Conception

Helps determine the probability of the animal becoming pregnant if inseminated within the current fertility window, as one of the following: Low (CR), Moderate (CR), or High (CR).

Heat Indicator (1, 2, 3)

Displays the heat level in session 1, 2, and/or 3.

Value represents heat indicator value in that session. Green values indicate the cow's values reached or exceeded her individual heat indicator threshold.

Days after

Change group

Displays the number of days after a Change Group, hoof trim, or pregnancy check event.

These events can increase an animal's activity levels, which is translated as a heat event. See Identify True Heat Events to learn how to make optimal insemination decisions.

Hoof Trimming

Preg. Check

Code

Displays any codes assigned to the animal.

Use the fertility window to verify conception risk

Use the Fertility Window Graph for a real-time snapshot of where the animal is currently located in relation to her heat cycle and optimal fertility window. The Fertility Window Graph displays the chance of conception at the current time stamp.

The Current Time Marker moves along the graph and indicates, in real time, how far past the cow is from the start of her heat cycle, and how close she is to her High CR.

According to current research, the highest conception rate starts 8 hours after the first signs of heat are detected and continues for 8 hours.

The graph displays a fixed 30-hour time span around the heat and fertility window. The system reads and updates the data hourly.

Click a row in the table to open the animal's fertility window graph.

The red legend in the graph tracks heat.
